Darcia is employed with The Law Society of Manitoba as General Counsel and Director of Policy and Ethics. She was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1988.

and to the Ontario Bar in 1993. She has been an active member of her profession having served as a Bencher of the Law Society and a non-Bencher member of various committees. For the past several years Darcia has acted as Co-Chair of the Federation of Law Societies Access to Legal Services Exchange Group.

GARY SENFT

Volunteer Advisor

Gary Senft practiced law in the financial services sector in Winnipeg after receiving his arts and law degrees from the University of Manitoba in 1977. He began his legal career with Investors Group Inc. and joined The Great-West Life Assurance Company (now Canada Life) in 1991, retiring in 2018.

DR. KAWSER AHMED

Executive Director

Dr. Kawser Ahmed (Executive Director) is an adjunct professor at the University of Winnipeg (political science). He completed his SSHRC post-doctroal fellowship at the same university in 2020. He was an exchange officer with the Turkish Armed Forces, an observer to the United Nations Missions in Western Sahara (MINURSO), and an alumnus at the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies (NESA) in Washington DC. Dr. Ahmed graduated in Peace and Conflict studies (MPhil, University of Dhaka & PhD, University of Manitoba). His research interests are social conflict and peace-building, radicalism, violent extremism, and UN peacekeeping operations.

PROFESSOR DR. HELAL MOHIUDDIN

Director, Research and Communication

Dr. Helal Mohiuddin is a social scientist with nearly three decades of experience conducting qualitative research on diverse areas of livelihood development and human resilience. He teamed up in many commissioned research for UNDP, UNICEF, ActionAid, NGO Forum, CARE ( 2007-FoSHoL, WASH, & ESHWRA, 2006- Nationwide Road Maintenance Programme (1992-2004), phase-out evaluation), Concern Worldwide and other NGOs. An academician by profession he taught sociology, anthropology, development studies, regional planning and gender studies courses at the University of Chittagong, University of Dhaka, and ASA University in Bangladesh; and University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg and Menno Simons College of the Canadian Mennonite University. Dr. Mohiuddin also served government positions in the Province of Manitoba in Canada.

PROFESSOR DR. NAHREEN I. KHAN

Director, Research & Outreach

Dr. Nahreen I. Khan is a professor at Jahangirnagar University, geography department in Bangladesh. She is a human geographer with over 19 years of experience in research, teaching, and policy formulation in Bangladesh and Germany.
Dr. Khan earned her PhD in Geography of Service, Communication, and Knowledge Innovation from the University of Marburg, Germany. She holds a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Geography and Environment from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, and an additional Master’s degree in Environmental Governance, Sustainability, Policy Analysis, and Environmental Conflict Management from the University of Freiburg, Germany. She also earned a Diploma in Gender Studies from the University of BOKU, Vienna, Austria. She also held an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to work as a visiting scientist at the University of Oldenburg in Germany.

Géhdian Began

INTERN

Géhdian began his journey with CRRIC as a volunteer while studying Criminal Justice & Political Science at the University of Winnipeg. His area of interest and study began in law enforcement, but later expanded to include studying the social vulnerabilities of youths against radical groups online. After graduating in 2023, he began working for CRRIC and has been actively using his analytical skills to research and gain insight into radicalization and extremism among youths. Beyond his professional responsibilities, Géhdian serves his community as a volunteer Crisis Counselor.

Her area of interest includes research about disinformation, media literacy, observance and  violation of journalistic standards, as well as propaganda, both in its historical origins and nowadays ones, caused by the Russia-Ukraine War. Currently she is an Erasmus Exchange student at University of Jyväskylä, Finland. There she also studies Communication Sciences, Marketing and Management.
