Professor Dr. Jakariya is a full time faculty in North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Prof. Jakariya specializes in Human Geography, Environmental Risk Assessment, Climate Change Adaptation, Migration and GIS. He has wide range of experience in project development and management related issues. He worked as a lead researcher for many national and international organizations mostly on natural resource management and groundwater related issues for more than two decades. Under his leadership the department has seen notable success including the launch of two environmental labs and one GIS lab. In addition to leading the department and teaching, Prof. Jakariya is an Executive Member of the National Environmental Committee. Before joining NSU, he was one of the pioneering contributors in sustainable arsenic mitigation projects with UNICEF, Bangladesh, and has developed techniques to detect arsenic in field. His contribution to providing sustainable safe water techniques for underprivileged people of Bangladesh is praiseworthy. He received MPhil degree in Environment and Development from Cambridge University, UK, in 2000, and PhD from KTH, Sweden in 2007. Prof. Jakariya has published a good number of papers in international peer-reviewed journals and books.
